Respect: A lost treasure in relationships!

Of all the dynamics that surround us on an everyday basis, the most important aspect of our lives remains our relationships. It can be our relationship with our elders, our friends, our helpers, our colleagues or the most hyped and talked about relationships with our spouse or lover. In a world full of billions of humans beings, it is our connection with these handful of people around us that makes our lives more meaningful and beautiful. But unfortunately, it is the same relations which at times also become the cause of our endless sufferings and pain. The suffering from a relation is labeled to occur because of the change in dynamics due to lack of understanding, generation gap, fading away of love with time or altered emotional component of either person in the relation. But irrespective of love and emotion, which of course, are one the most marketed terms today, the only aspect of a relation which is highly overlooked and which has the potential to alter almost everything betwee

By Assaulting, Blaming and Shaming the doctors, where do you think we are heading?

Two junior doctors were badly attacked by the attendees of a patient, who died from cardiac arrest in a medical college in Bengal on Monday! Unfortunately, I had posted a very similar blog last year in March 2018; but the recent incidence has forced me to post this yet again. This is just one of the many incidences which happen on a very frequent basis with doctors and have been on an unfortunate rise in the past few years. I am ashamed to even type that the doctors are beaten up, shamed, dragged into consumer courts and at times even abused by the patients or their attendees for anything that goes  UNEXPECTED! I have grown up in a family immersed in medical science, and at present, I reside in a campus full of medical graduates. I have lived with doctors all around me since always and now that I am practicing as one myself, I realize the level of responsibility, care, concern, and compromise that the doctors carry on their shoulders. Medicine is not a branch where things come

Tobacco doesn't care whether you are a man, woman or child! It just KILLS!

Tobacco a slow and not-so-silent a killer surrounds most of us in our day to day life. Smoking tobacco or chewing tobacco is considered as normal and routine by many. Having a bad day, take a puff, tired of looking at the computer screens, let’s go out and draw some smoke. Smokeless tobacco which is available to be chewed as gutka and other products constitute yet another common break from work for many, or at times is chewed for “passing time ” as well! And yes, just in case you don’t consume tobacco even then chances are that you might be under the radar of passive tobacco consumption because of someone near to you. You might be inhaling tobacco smoke emitted by your spouse at home, your colleague at work or by people around you in an authorized Hookah café! Being engulfed in a cloud full of poison does sound bad for sure, but the good news is that this bad is totally and entirely in our own hands. Tobacco in any form can have a plethora of ill-effects on the human body. Fro

Can “shaming people for their attitude” bring about true change?

The recent “Aunty” incidence that went viral!   In a very recent episode a video on the social media went viral. The video that I am mentioning here is the one where a middle-aged woman popularly referred to as "auntyji" made a sad remark on a girl wearing a short dress. The comment though hasn’t been recorded exactly in her words in the video but she is alleged to have said, that for the short dress that the girl was wearing she deserves to get raped! The aftermath was obvious; the girl along with a few other friends who were accompanying her got in a heated argument with her. They repeatedly asked her to apologize but the lady did not, instead, she threatened to call the police which got the girls more violent who in response threatened her for the same. The argument was then joined by another lady, who is a mother, she was seen to boldly put her point across. She is seen supporting the girls in the video, where she says that she gives her daughters complete freedom of

Smile! It is the International day of Happiness today!

Yes, the day is beautiful and it’s supposed to be a day full of joy and smiles. International day of happiness was founded by the United Nations advisor, Jayme Illien to inspire, mobilize and advance the global happiness movement. Illien conceptualized the idea for a U.N resolution that would recognize the pursuit of happiness as a fundamental human right and a fundamental human goal. The day which was founded very recently in the year 2012 marks a new historical milestone in humankind’s ultimate quest for happiness, which dates back to the time of ancient sages and philosophers such as Buddha and religious figures like Jesus, and Prophet Muhammad all of whom theorized about the purpose and meaning of life, the definition of happiness and how to achieve it. While Gross domestic product (GDP) of a country has always been taken as the measure of countries overall growth and development, it was only recently in 2011 that Bhutan adopted gross national happiness (GNH) instead of

Let us judge less and accept more!

We have a lot of discussions around us every day about the rights and the wrongs and unfortunately most such rights and wrongs that are laid down by the society revolve around a woman. Wearing a certain type of clothes for girls is not right says one lot, and be broad-minded says the other; girls can party till any time they want say one lot, and there is a certain restriction that girls should follow for their own safety says the other. The biological clock for woman is always tickling and thus girls should get married on time so that they can deliver a healthy child says one logical lot while the other may argue saying that we have advanced and the girl should pursue her career, get stable or even buy herself a house and then look for a companion to settle. Change your surname it makes you more connected to the man you marry suggest some; maintain your identity say the other. And of course, in a very recent controversy which involved one of the best and a world-famous music compose

Politics: A part of our lives or life itself?

The much awaited 2019 is here, and just as we all must have expected, we are surrounded and submerged by political discussions everyday and everywhere! Not just the news and media where they should ideally be confined to, the discussions have spilled onto our WhatsApp groups and social media profiles as well. I am sure many of us put a lot of quotient of our energies, trying to justify our point of views and defending the leader we support. A small twist and we go on and on, a policy change and we start debating again, it indeed is like an endless saga. Isn’t it? But why do we forget, that just like many other things that surround us, politics too is just another thing? By indulging in more than required levels in these debates and discussions that surround politics, we not only lose a significant quotient of our energies but also create and spread many ripples of negativity in our surroundings. It’s unfortunate to see that the verbal wars that we witness over the terms of our d

A drive into the Himalayas

Well, the last week of December is as festive as it can get for anybody and everybody. It’s a week that calls for some year-end celebrations, get together’s and travel. I wanted to plan something for that week since eternity but my usual attitude to push every work till the last moment, made me plan absolutely nothing till almost the 20 th of December! It was on the 20 th that it struck me that we needed to book tickets to travel, and of course, we needed to book a hotel to stay. Various places within the country, including popular destinations like Goa, were packed and out of budget for us. There were two options that we were left with; 1) stay back home and crib 2) explore something that we never explored before. After a series of discussions, we came to a common conclusion to travel to Pokhara city in Nepal. I tried searching a lot to get some details about the roads, the recommended route etc but couldn’t get any detailed post and thus I was certain to post a blog on it.
