Can we expect Real Growth, from Intelligence that’s Artificial?

Technology has changed so much around us in the past few years, isn’t it? From getting miraculously connected to each other through phones, we have grown multifold since the time mobiles were first introduced. Internet, international connectivity, google search, and social media, we seem to have travelled ahead at the speed of light. While many of us were still adapting to all of this, a big word- artificial intelligence started circulating.

Intelligence and artificial, look like two opposite words that have been joined together, is what came to my mind when I first heard about it. Before I could know, this technology, now popular as AI had already infiltrated many apps and websites. Someone asked me if I use ChatGPT, and I got partially shocked to discover what it was. In between all this lately, there was another popular news that mentioned how an MIT graduate had invented a device that could read your mind. He mentioned how it could google questions within your mind and order a pizza without you saying a word or moving a finger. Well, ok, I checked if this was specific research for the disabled. But then there was no such mention, and since this was doing rounds as yet another advancement, I didn’t know how to react to that.

Evolution is a wonderful process that has brought us to the life that we are leading today. It is gradually over millions of years that we the evolved humans eventually began to understand ourselves and our minds better. With the great efforts of scientists, researchers, and philosophers we got our first understanding of the human body and mind and began to explore and grow in ways that were previously unknown. Our growth in various dimensions of life has been exhaustive and commendable. Literature, music, medicine, education, and even technology; we have travelled miles, but how? By our untiring efforts, by utilizing the full potential of our minds, and by understanding and working on our individual talents. But then came the process of simplifying it all, after all, who likes effort? Reducing tiring physical labor through machines helped us to a great extent, but probably we didn’t want our minds to work too and began a chain of inventions to reduce our mental efforts as well.

It is partially appalling to see that in today’s date, anyone can generate elaborate articles or content even on subjects that they may not be fully aware of, using ChatGPT a readily available and used AI tool. We talk big things when it comes to authenticity, we want authentic materials to wear, and authentic wood to make sure our furniture stays. But here in the matter of minds, most of us have been justifying this, saying this has made it simple, and saves our time. We are so ready to compromise with the authenticity in this aspect. Cheap advertisements of AI writing tools claim that they can help you make up with your lover after a fight by writing the best of messages. Where is the emotional connect or understanding? It’s unfortunate that our future generations are using such generated and not researched content to gather information, or even make or break relationships. The trend of the library was long replaced by Google search; this quick-fix search technology had made us shallow long back by getting us used to targeted information and momentary knowledge. With AI that’s now trending, I am not sure where we are set to head.

It's not just the writing tools, today we want AI to do it all for us. Be it website-making, voice recording, data analysis, or even decision-making. In fact, recently I even read about TutorGPT, and MathGPT applications seeping into the education industry, to replace teachers and make learning more personalized. Aah! I wish I could tell someone that learning has a lot more to do with human interaction, than gaining unlimited generated information in the name of words like customized, personalized, and so forth. It's sad how we are replacing the need for one human at a time with technology like this. One may argue saying that this would just generate newer job opportunities, but I hope we realize it’s not about the replacement of jobs; it’s beautiful to be alive only as long as we keep our efforts up. Clicking buttons and letting the artificial intelligence work for us, may finish our intelligence or individual potentials altogether.

Over the years humans have lost many traits/structures/organs that were less used. This too is a way of evolution and makes an organ that isn’t in use, vestigial. If our brain gets vestigial, then what is appearing as growth today, will end up in our devolution tomorrow. Einstein had probably overseen all of this decades back and had rightly said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler”

Modern disclaimer- This article has not been generated using ChatGPT, its written by a human mind.

Ranveer Allahbadia is just the tip of the iceberg! #digitalworld

In a recent incident, popular podcaster and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia faced widespread criticism for making an inappropriate remark that was deemed unacceptable by many. Thank God for that, or else we are now a society where everything under the sun is rather normalised. I wouldn’t repeat the remark here, I can’t, it's out of my scope to write anything like that. Anyway, after that so-called remark on a show run by a popular comedian, Samay Raina was aired and shared, the internet was set on fire. I casually opened my Twitter on Sunday and was taken aback by the clip which was being circulated. It looked something like this: Some people, popular in the world of the internet sitting on a panel and roasting a contestant that stood in front of them. A highly vulgar remark was made by Ranveer, and the rest of the panel members along with the audience joined in laughter and applause. ‘Ah! Isn’t all this becoming rather common nowadays!’ was my first reaction, following which ...

A drive into the Himalayas

Well, the last week of December is as festive as it can get for anybody and everybody. It’s a week that calls for some year-end celebrations, get together’s and travel. I wanted to plan something for that week since eternity but my usual attitude to push every work till the last moment, made me plan absolutely nothing till almost the 20 th of December! It was on the 20 th that it struck me that we needed to book tickets to travel, and of course, we needed to book a hotel to stay. Various places within the country, including popular destinations like Goa, were packed and out of budget for us. There were two options that we were left with; 1) stay back home and crib 2) explore something that we never explored before. After a series of discussions, we came to a common conclusion to travel to Pokhara city in Nepal. I tried searching a lot to get some details about the roads, the recommended route etc but couldn’t get any detailed post and thus I was certain to post a blog on it. ...
