Feminism! Are we heading in the right way?

Feminism! Big word right? Yes, I am a woman and a feminist myself, I do believe in the safety, opportunities and the independence for women, and I also believe that women should have all the rights to decide and carve the events in their lives and shape their own destinies. But does that make me a woman who deliberately imposes things on men? Does that make me a woman who deliberately runs away from things which have otherwise been beautifully recognized as a woman’s duties?
Women have come a long way from the time when the feminist ideas first evolved. They have conquered many battles, and today they hold a much better position in most of the areas of life, in many if not all the portions of the world. Then why do we see women getting against what used to be “their own”, why do see women focusing more on what they shouldn’t do than what they should do. Why instead of focusing on equal rights to get educated,  work and earn, women have rather started turning their backs on household work, on giving time to their families, and in enforcing men to involve in what otherwise was only a woman’s duty. I do not say working in the house is only a woman’s responsibility, I say it’s naturally divided if a woman is devoting time to work and shares responsibility in earning bread for the house. Shouting loud for your rights and turning your back on your duties is not feminism by any means. Talking boldly about some private things and getting rough with your words isn’t feminism either. It saddens me to see the many social media posts by ladies which instead of sounding strong and positive sound demeaning and negative. It also saddens me to see the multiple women associations which start with a positive idea but end up focusing on what men should do rather on what women should do. Realize dear ladies that we are fortunate to be living in an era where, not only we have the right to choose what we want, but also, we have the power to voice our opinions by the multiple channels available. Let's live our rights in the right way, rather than shouting loud for our rights in all the wrong manners.

A woman is the most beautiful creation of God, who has always been associated with dignity, care, patience, and love, it is a woman who bears and builds the generations. The distinction that was made by nature was to create a certain balance in the society. Feminism doesn’t mean going ahead by disrupting that balance and feminism doesn’t mean “man-like” either. My dear ladies work hard, earn more, get well read and marry only when you want to, but don’t cut your roots of being a woman. For no matter how tall a tree grows it stands there and stands strong only if it has its roots deep-seated, well adhered and unaffected by the length of its stem and the number of its branches. Proud to be a woman!

Annoyed by children on board? This read is for you

A recent Instagram post by a well-known celebrity writer read “They should give away free birth control pills on all airlines as a public service.” I juggled for a long time to understand what it meant, but couldn’t until I saw the only hashtag the writer had used as a caption beneath, #annoyingchildrenonboard. This post came after almost a week of relaxing and luxurious holiday that he had in Thailand. As most of the posts by this writer are relatable, at times funny and witty, it took me a while to comprehend what he had written. How could he post such a thing ? I thought, and scrolled through the comments section. In the comments I saw outpouring negativity for little children and their parents inside airplanes. “It’s so irritating!” one comment read, “I wanted to sleep peacefully on my three-hour flight, but the child behind just couldn’t shut up. Why do people produce when they can’t teach their children basic etiquette!!!” “So relatable,” read another, “an annoying baby was cryin...

Health beyond COVID-19!

None of us had imagined that we would ever see a crisis in health as huge as the one that we are witnessing currently.   One disease and the entire world has come to a standstill. But then, what is life if we can predict it? Coronavirus, which has shaken everyone with its massive spread, has slowly moved towards community spread in India. Reasons for its relatively slower rise in numbers here can be various. The timely and stringent actions taken by the government, our immunity to survive it due to poor overall hygiene of the country; or the relatively larger number of infections that we already face. However, fear of rising numbers remains, because we are a densely populated land. The losses that COVID has caused are many and grave but then, there is one good thing that it has brought to us as a country. It is our efforts to improve our existing healthcare system. It will be premature to say if these efforts are temporary or permanent but it’s very positive to see how w...

How many years do you think constitute a generation gap?

Well! It was during one of a conversation with a colleague of mine that we started talking about the changes in attitude of a slightly younger age group nowadays. The slightly younger I realized was not more than a five year younger to me or the average adult. While I could still connect a little more to the way these slightly younger people think, she couldn’t! While I still felt that I was one of them in some ways, she felt she was a generation behind from them. Things around us are changing way too fast! In terms of social media for example, by the time you get used to Instagram, the world may call you outdated saying that “Snapchat” is the new in. By the time you master one particular technique or idea in your professional field, someone who joined a year later to you may come up saying that this is an old-way to work! Till a few years back where a range of 25-28 was considered ideal to get married and have a child, today most people have their own definition of “settlement”, w...
